MY FIRST 5-STRING BANJO FROM SCRATCH Empty
PostSubject: MY FIRST 5-STRING BANJO FROM SCRATCH   MY FIRST 5-STRING BANJO FROM SCRATCH EmptyWed Oct 10, 2007 1:52 pm

Hello all
I finished this banjo about April 1st and ive been picking it every day since. I built it all from scratch and did all the work myself. Trust me i am no expert, and thank god for the internet. It took about three months to complete and i am proud of it. I have received many compliments on it and some dont think its my first. I have done woodworking for 35+ years and believe me it was a big plus.
Feel free to ask me any questions and if you are thinking of building your own, i suggest you do alot of research first.
Best to all and thanks for looking
Pat

Hi Carter
I used a three layers of laminated hard-rock maple for the rim. It was glued and turned on a 12" lathe.
The Tone Ring is a Kurlesh, Rich and Taylor bronze ring. It was the most expensive part of the banjo, but it sure makes the instrument. The sound is sharp, crisp and bright. I also used a 5 Star head.
I will have to figure out how to post the sound clip.! LOL
Thanks for looking
Pat
