| Hello everyone!
Alright, so many of you may know about Earl's banjo book (Which I highly recomend). Now Earl is more famous for playing banjo, but his guitar rocked as well! So why hasen't anyone put a book out about that? If not Earl, Jim Mills is a great guitarist, he could put out a book or DVD.
I even play a little fingerstyle, I do like Earl's banjo better, but Earl's guitar is a part of his music. Earl is very good guitarist, displaying aspects of Mother Maybelle Carter's style ("Jimmie Brown, The Newsboy" and "You Are My Flower" to name a couple) and a three finger version of Merle Travis style, using a thumb rhythm ("Are You Washed In The Blood" for example). But Earl's style is unique, using forward and alternating rolls in contrast to the regular Travis style. Also, Earl tends to use the E-postition for several songs.
What do you guys think about an Earl Scruggs guitar book?

| I would love to see a Scruggs Style Guitar book out! He copied a lot of Momma Maybelle Carter so if she had put out a book, that would probably have very similar info in there. | |

| There is some stuff out that covers Carter styles, one of them might be on a "Homespun Tape" | |

| I seen the audio sample of that, Sonnys pretty good, so is his "replacment," Dana Cupp, who used to play with Bill Monroe and now plays with Bobby Osborne. | |

| Hey guys! This is my first time logged in to the site, and I know that this post is aging. But thought I'd jump in anyway. I would very much like to adapt my picking to Earl's guittar style. A book, or lessons in any other media, would be something I would spend money on. Maybe someone can contact Earl about it. Or possibly Hal Leonard, as he published both printings of Earl's banjo book. ~ Grizzly | |

| You can get an address at www.earlscruggs.com I ordered a couple of autographed banjo heads from him recently. So the web store does have some type of contact with him. They dont do online sales, or credit/debit cards. You have to mail a check or money order to their address. Just a thought, I might mail them a letter when I get off the road and back home. Wouldn't hurt to have the requests come from all directions. ~ Grizzly

| As far as the 'common man' having accesss to Earl, you just might be surprised! I've had email contact with several 'big name' musicians just by sending them a note, and my email address. And I'm about as common a guy as you're gonna find! I'm gonna write to Earl personally and see what happens. I'll let you know if I hear back from him. ~ Grizzly | |

| I know Sonny Osborne, and Kenny Ingram are both accessible by email. And I also read that Earl has no personal email address. | |

| Earl doesn't appear to me to be the type of person who would mess with computers at all. Had they come about in his younger years he might have though. Most people in his age bracket don't do email, or even computers. I'll bet his sons, and other people affiliated closely to him do though. His web site is pretty bare bones as web sites go. About the most high tech you'll find there is the ability to fill out your order form before printing it out. Then you've got to use 'snail mail' to get it there. Personally I've got to respect anyone who avoids computers, email, and the internet. My life was so much simpler BC (Before Computers) LOL Can't hardly do business without 'em though! ~ Grizzly | |

Seriously though, keep us posted about contacting Earl. If you fail I'll kick you off this board, LOL! Kidding again.
