I have a DVD with that video on it, the whole concert. It was a USO show for the army. Even had the commercials for the army!

What year is this? Earl's Granada has the Bow-tie inlays, so somewhere between '50 and '58, right?

Yup. Also with Hylo Brown on bass, so it's sometime in the early 50's.

So I was right!

Oh yeah, Carter, when you gave me the list of banjo necks, you might have left one out, in the late 60s Earl might have replaced the mahogany neck with a curly maple one with a smaller peghead, judging from what I read.

Hmmm....I never heard about that one. Where did you hear that? I always thought through the 60's and into the 70's he had a H&F mahogany.

"The original neck warped and was replaced with a mahogany neck in the late 1950s; *a curly maple neck with a smaller peghead was installed on the banjo in the late sixties*."

One thing I just found out, when he got the bowtie inlays, is when he sent it back to Gibson after the trade for a restoration. The neck was not replaced, only the fingerboard with bowtie inlays. Sonny Osborne told me the same thing happened to him once.
