im practicing everything rolls songs etc.
Guess i will just have to stay with it
Thanks for listening

Hi Joshua
Yes i have it. As a matter of fact i bought my copy back around 1979 and still play from it. The book i have came with a plastic record so that gives an idea of how old it is.
It is loaded with information
Thanks

That book is like the banjo Bible! And Earl, the banjo God!
Don't worry, the learning process goes different for everyone. Some slow, some faster. You never stop learning!

I have about 8 months or so under my belt and I'm already in a band! Not meaning to brag on myself to much or anything.

Trust me when I say that Earl's book may be the best book ever for info on scruggs style and even Earl himself, he has a very lengthy bio toward the back, GOOD STUFF!

Josh, I think I have about 6 months too, I wish there was any bluegrass around here so I could get in a band! But there is at least one picker on the BHO who lives in Sudbury! What a coincidence!

Hi All
A good place to look for bluegrass cds is Walmart.
Try looking in the huge section where the price is the cheapest.
I find them there every so often and usually buy them out.
Not a bad deal for $9-10 for a single or double pack.

I never found any at my local Walmart, but I don't know. I just received 3 bluegrass CD's (one Ralph Stanley, one Earl Scruggs, and one Buck Trent and Roy Clark duets. All instrumentals). A lot of great stuff on em.

We have a small space at my walmart for Bluegrass, about 1/5 or so the size of the rock section.

Can anyone tell me how to post a sound clip? I know i have to tape it and then somehow post it in the section on this site. Should i use a tape recorder or my computer?
This one is new to me?
Thanks for your help!

I've been a HUGE fan of Earl since 1969. I started out by slowing all hismusic down by my reel-to reel tape recorder. I'd record his breaks at 7.5 ips, then turn the speed down to 3.75 which would knock the tune down an octave and slow it to half as fast, and then for those real hard to get licks, I'd slow the recorder down to 1.125 orsomething like that and the music would be 2 octaves lower and a quarter as fast.
I'd write them all down as music and as tablature with the rythmic stems attached right to the tab. This was back in '69.
Later I got his book and when he said play this 1,000,000 times, I think I really did.
I have enjoyed playing banjo for all these years and love Earl so much. I've had the great pleasure of meeting him in my hometown diner one time.
